Maximum flexibility with optimal space utilisation: FIX AG modernizes soil-side sorting with JENSEN

The focus of the most recent investment was the modernization of the soil-side sorting processes. The old system and limited space conditions had previously made upgrades difficult. With the JENSEN-GROUP, FIX AG found a suitable partner: the space-saving, flexible solution with Futurail Multibins could be optimally adapted to the operational conditions. This resulted in a modern, scalable system for efficient, structured pre-sorting, seamlessly integrated into existing processes.

Tradition and continuous development

FIX AG has its roots in a traditional textile cleaning business that was handed over from the founding family to the Adank family around 45 years ago. Since then, the company has been continuously developed. Today, it is managed by Marco Adank in the second generation. With a daily processing capacity of 22 tonnes in a single-shift operation, the laundry reliably serves a broad customer base.

As the company grew, so did the demands on internal processes, particularly in in soil-side sorting. The existing system had been in operation for many years and was increasingly reaching its limits. Several modernization attempts failed due to the limited available space. It was only with JENSEN-GROUP that a solution could be implemented that was convincing both technically and in terms of available space. Thanks to flexible planning, a solution tailored step by step to the on-site conditions was developed.

“We were able to prepare very well, no information was missing. Everything was very transparent; even the smallest details were addressed and solved together,” says Andrea Sanchez, Head of Finishing at FIX AG, describing the project process. The close involvement of employees ensured that the new system precisely meets the requirements of daily operations. Installation and ongoing production were coordinated in such a way that operations could be maintained at all times.

Greater efficiency in the sorting process

The results speak for themselves: the new soil-side sorting system increases process efficiency while also noticeably improving the working environment. Daily operations at FIX AG have fundamentally changed as a result. Processes that were previously shaped by the old system now run in a more structured, efficient and stable way. The solution makes optimal use of the available space while at the same time creating more capacity and flexibility in daily operations.

Previously, two lanes were used; today, a modern system with 60 bags of soiled linen across five lanes (three long and two short) is in place. This enables flexible, demand-driven pre-sorting of around 18 tonnes of linen per day. Thanks to its modular structure, a sorting station tailored to FIX AG was created, combining ergonomic Futurail Multibins with a bypass feeding system from two levels. In addition, the system allows targeted discharge of small categories into laundry carts for further processing in washer-extractors.

Thanks to the smart arrangement of the sorting platform, the available room height is used optimally, while the area below remains efficiently usable for the laundry operation. Information screens with text and images at all stations and on both levels support employees in maintaining oversight at all times. Another advantage is the intuitive handling and clear structure of the sorting processes, which make daily work easier for staff. The system simplifies workflows, reduces sources of error, and ensures a clear, controlled sorting area.

From the Stone Age to the modern era

This development is also clearly perceived internally: “The way we work today is no longer comparable to the past. With the new system, we have moved from the Stone Age into the modern era,” explains Plant Manager Gerhard Neuenschwander, describing the transformation. He particularly highlights the calmer processes, the improved working environment and the increased attractiveness of the workplace. At first, there was some scepticism, but this quickly faded once the benefits became visible in daily operations.

Andrea Sanchez adds: “The new system is significantly more ergonomic. Physical strain has been reduced, as manual handling and sorting of linen have been greatly minimised. At the same time, working with the automated system offers a higher level of technical engagement and therefore a noticeable added value in everyday work.”

Future-proof processes and a strong partnership

A key success factor of the project was the close, collaborative partnership with the JENSEN-GROUP. The Futurail Multibins solution impressed with its flexibility, scalability and precise alignment with FIX AG’s spatial and operational requirements. This resulted in a system that meets current demands optimally while remaining designed for future growth and evolving processes. For FIX AG, the long-term perspective is particularly important. “Support and collaboration are crucial for us. These two factors shape our openness to further projects with JENSEN,” says Managing Director Marco Adank.

The project is also viewed very positively by JENSEN: “The collaboration was direct and uncomplicated. We always knew where we stood and were able to jointly develop the right solutions in a focused manner,” says Thomas Eichenberger, Sales Manager at JENSEN Switzerland.
