The company under the leadership of Managing Director Josef Kotzinger is one of the largest laundries in Austria. With just under 25,000 inhabitants, Krems an der Donau is the fifth largest city in Lower Austria and is located north of the Danube River, 70 km west of Vienna. Krems is idyllically situated in the Danube Valley, where the Große Krems River flows into the Danube. 
The second half of the 20th century brought many successes to the city of Krems, including the expansion of the port of Krems as a result of the increasing importance of the Danube Way, and with it, modern and efficient industry. Because of its location on the Danube and the tributary valleys, Krems is a transportation hub. The university hospital with over 1,000 employees, as well as numerous tourist destinations such as the old town of Krems, which is part of the Wachau UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape, make Krems a versatile city – and provide a wide range of customers for Regina Textilreinigungs GmbH. Approximately 1,000 companies both large and small – including nursing homes, hospitals, hotels, or production plants in Vienna and Eastern Austria – are among the customers of the traditional family business, which has been marketed as a full-service textile supplier since 1961.

How do you plan the installation of a tunnel washer with water extraction press and its integration into the existing equipment during this challenging time? Where travel is difficult or even impossible, where contactless encounters are the order of the day? By advance coordination with all the trades, early involvement of the building services, and a competent, creative team under the leadership of Project Manager Jürgen Haas and Service Manager Thorsten Rollmann.

Even if the pause button is currently pressed in the world, business continues, some even more than usual during this time when so much focus is placed on hygiene. Healthcare professionals in hospitals and nursing homes are considered systemically important, so that the supply of first-class, sparkling clean, rented linen must be ensured. Regina offers all textiles for the healthcare sector – from supplies for hospital wards, to garments, to sterile sets packed for specific operations. The highest hygienic standards ensure the safety of patients and medical staff. Therefore, the installation of the new laundry plant with press had to go smoothly. A special challenge.

Above the clouds – tunnel washer in the landing approach
The impressive JENSEN Senking Universal P60 tunnel washer floats slowly through the treetops – landing directly in its new place in Wäscherei Regina in Krems. Together with a JENSEN SEP 60 Plus water extraction press for optimal water extraction and perfect hygiene conditions, the tunnel washer is the latest addition to the successful laundry. Now both new machines have to be integrated into the existing monorail system and the local compound control system. These systems do not come from JENSEN, so there are different requirements for the integration. But we love a challenge!  The technical staff of Wäscherei Regina are very skilled. Together with the JENSEN service team from Austria and Germany, as well as Christeyns to configure the washing process with correctly metered detergents and additives, the clean and dirty sides could be modified and adjusted completely without the help of third-party providers. Both the hardware and software of the compound control system were changed by the JENSEN team so that a smooth integration could take place. The technical team of Wäscherei Regina was involved in the project from the very beginning and was able to provide optimal support for the installation and commissioning.

Cross-border success
Travel restrictions that affect us all directly have also had certain effects on this project. Remote solutions and remote access, emails, video conferences, and telephone communication allowed us to perform the on-site installation in the best way possible under the current applicable restrictions. The commissioning scheduled for the weekend was carried out without any problems, including familiarization and training on site for the operating staff: By Sunday, the Regina team headed by Workshop Manager Thomas Köck was able to wash again at 12:30 p.m.

Now the JENSEN Senking Universal tunnel washer with the associated SEP 60 water extraction press can realize its full power. The versatile tunnel washing machine with internal power and water recycling supports Wäscherei Regina with greater efficiency, productivity, and washing quality and delivers excellent washing and rinsing results by processing the laundry in separate compartments. The improved geometry of the patented Archimedean helix uses the drum diameter efficiently and enables high falling curves for excellent mechanical washing action.
