Customer orientation at its best: the new DTX dryer

Continuation of the article in JENFO 11

The life of the JENSEN’s DTX Dryer range began as a request from a number of our North American customers to develop a range of large capacity, heavy-duty dryers that would be efficient, durable and easy to maintain. Here are some of the other features that were incorporated into the design of the DTX Dryer range:

Axial airflow

Air enters the dryer basket through manifolds mounted above the front and rear doors and not through the basket perforations like most other dryers. In addition to improving the airflow and dryer efficiency, this eliminates the need for wipers and significantly reduces the maintenance requirement.

Rigid construction

The dryer is supported from a single, rigid, steel sub-frame.

Central lubrication

All lubrication points are located together to the side of the dryer to ease the lubrication process and to enable lubrication to take place while the dryer is running.

Direct drive

We decided to eliminate all drive belts and chains by incorporating a variable speed, direct drive system for the basket. The basket is supported from below by two drive rollers and two idler rollers and then two thrust rollers on each side support the basket during loading and unloading. All rollers are easily accessible for maintenance or replacement.

Swing-out fan housing

The fan motor housing is hinged so that the whole assembly can be swung out to gain access to the fan blades for cleaning or replacement.

Removable basket panels

Removable basket panels are standard on all models. Teflon or Ceramic coating can also be optionally provided, however.

Stainless steel lint screen

The lint collector features a stainless steel screen, sealed rotor bearings and a hinged access door for easy inspection and maintenance.  Lint is collected in a large, lightweight aluminum drum that has wheels for mobility.

Adjustable tilt

The angle of tilt for unloading is adjustable and programmable to optimize the unloading process and to control the spread of work on the unloading conveyor. The angle of tilt can also be adjusted for loading if required.

Dryer control

At the heart of the DTX dryer range is an industrial PLC and a keypad/display unit for easy operator interface. A number of pre-selected dryer programs regulate the burner and control both the rotation and speed of the basket. These, together with a humidity algorithm that determines the end of the drying cycle, ensure maximum dryer efficiency. The JENSEN service helpdesk even has the ability to remotely monitor the dryer control via its internet connection for fault diagnostics and software support.

Safety features

Safety must be a major factor in the design of any machine and the DTX Dryer range includes many new and important safety features as standard:

  • High limit sprinkler system
  • Safety circuit to stop machine tilt mid-cycle if emergency stop is pressed
  • Lubrication points located to the side of machine (away from shuttle)
  • Guarding of all pinch points
  • Built-in fire and suppression system in lint collector

Sales of the dryers have continued to grow and we are excited that other major North American laundry groups such as ALSCO and G&K Services have chosen JENSEN’s DTX Dryers.
