Great success for the Innovation Days in Harsum (GER)

September 7-9, 2006

JENSEN customers worldwide were invited to JENSEN,s Wash Room Technology factory in Harsum, Germany to view the latest innovations in JENSEN laundry equipment technology. The number of visitors was 1300 during these days. 30% of the guests came from German companies and 70% were international customers from 40 countries on 4 continents: North-America, Asia, Europe and Australia reflecting JENSEN's leading position in the world market.

James Wash has the right solution

Every day the newly arriving customers were surprised by a special show presenting the Highlights of the Innovation Days. The two laundry ladies Adelheid and Berta gave a live demonstration equipped with washing troughs of two different washing philosophies: the swirling and the rotating washing process, while singing "The JENSEN Laundry Blues". James Wash came onto the scene and asked the question: "How do you like your laundry... shaken, or stirred?" He convinced the spectators that the right solution was: A washer that can do both: rotating or swirling washing action on request, the UNIVERSAL HighLine.

More mechanical action

JENSEN has developed a new batch washer that combines the advantages of two different washing concepts and methods of transporting the linen from one compartment to the next.

This new machine is based on the well-proven construction design of nearly 2000 batch washers installed by JENSEN throughout the world. The UNIVERSAL HighLine combines the well known Archimedian helix, which adds incomparable strength to the drum, with scoops for a rotating wash action, which was utilised by the first SENKING-Batch Washers P 14 and P 16 more than 30 years ago. The advantages of this combination are the excellent mechanical action and the safe transport into the next compartment.

The rotating wash action lifts the linen from the bottom by a scoop and rotates the linen around the axis of the drum and drops it down on the other side onto the bottom of the drum. For the transfer into the next compartment the drum turns in the other direction and the scoop lifts the linen up from the bottom of the drum. The linen slides down in diagonal direction into the next chamber. The Archimedian screw design allows a very large transfer opening. The rotating wash action and the smooth lift transfer guarantees a high mechanical action. This is especially required for processing heavily soiled items, such as garments, dust mats, cleaning mops etc.

Such a high mechanical action might not be required for all linen categories, therefore the UNIVERSAL HighLine also offers the possibility for an oscillating drum action, which can be programmed individually. In addition, the UNIVERSAL HighLine is designed with a special configuration in the rinse zone, which allows a complete bath separation for highest flexibility and productivity with low consumption figures.

The UNIVERSAL HighLine will be available for batch sizes up to 72 kg. The Universal HighLine was developed for customers who prefer the rotating washing principle for laundries that are specialized in mats and heavily soiled garments. However the HighLine also has the flexibility to wash other types of medium and lightly soiled linen with a high degree of flexibility, profitability and reliability.

The whole sorting system in your hand

Metricon Live is a tool to control the garment sorting system. It was developed to increase productivity and to decrease complexity. The program is based around the layout of the sorting system. This makes the system very easy to use and understand. Metricon Live is able to run on a standard PC or a Pocket PC, a small handheld computer. With a Pocket PC it is possible to control the system everywhere via a wireless network.

It is possible to interact with all objects in Metricon Live. A machine that is integrated in the sorting system can be disabled or started per double-click on the visualized object. If an object is hovered over it will display extra information. The Pocket PC displays the number of processed garments totally and processed per hour through the loading stations.

In Metricon Live the location of alarms and the recommendation how to fix them are displayed on the system layout. The Pocket PC allows alarms to be fixed much faster, decreasing system downtime and increasing productivity. Metricon Live comes with a built-in a-sort. This makes it possible to discharge routes from several locations around the plant. The Pocket PC can discharge routes anywhere and everywhere.

By being able to control the system, clearing alarms and discharging routes most of the day-to-day operations can be done with Metricon Live on a Pocket PC.

A highlight of the Innovation Days was the order written on a blue tablecloth by Rick and Corey Walas of Pacific Linen Services in Queensland, Australia, for a complete turnkey JENSEN laundry.
